Say Goodbye to Rolf Zacher

16102015-7

I remember, it was 2014, I was composing some film music for Veit Helmers lovely movie „Quatsch“ in my studio.

Veit asked me to record a song with the actor called Rolf Zacher. I remember the first time we met – he had this beaming charisma, he was very charming. Already being in his 70s, he stood in front of the microphone and performed very youthful, agitated and intense, he jumped up and down like an aeorbic dancer and was sweating heavily after recording for a couple of minutes in his silky suit.
Taking lunch together, he had no problem to flirt with my wife, although I was right beside him.
He was very slim, but he ate a lot. Sipping at an espresso whilst sitting in my garden, he told me quirky stories about his time as a refugee in the 2nd World War and how he worked as a baker, bartender and dancer when he was younger. He could swith from charming to scrubby in the wink of an eye – I liked him very much, like an old friend.

A couple of days later he called me and asked me with his breathy, croaky voice if I wanted to record his new album. As I was busy with two little kids and work I unfortunately had to pass on that. The coming years we met a couple of times by accident at movie premieres, but unfortunately we lost contact. I was really sad that we never had the chance to say goodbye! He was a very special and lovely guy, I´ll miss him! (Lars Löhn – February 2018)

Zacher worked as an actor on over 250 movies with directors like Rainer Fassbinder, Oscar Roehler, Sherry Hormann,  Vadim Glowna, Uli Edel and so many others. He died in Hamburg in  February 2018

SPIELZEUGLAND – OSCAR AWARD WINNING MOVIE 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Today is the tenth anniversary of the Oscar award winning movie Toyland, for which Ingo Ludwig Frenzel composed the film music.

Germany 1942. In order to protect her son, Marianne Meißner tries to make her son believe that the Jewish neighbors must travel soon. To the toy country … One morning the neighbors disappeared. Marianne’s son Heinrich also. Of course, Marianne knows that there is no „toy country“, just as an entire nation knew what happened to Jewish citizens. Marianne wants to save her son.

Marianne will ihren Sohn retten.

Babylon Berlin – Film Music

We are happy to announce that Felix Raffel has composed some additional film music for the first episode of the series Babylon Berlin. The series is available on the Sky Network and will be broadcasted on ARD later this year.
The Story Line: A metropolis in turmoil. From economy to culture, politics to the underworld – everything is in the grip of radical change. Speculation and inflation are already tearing away at the foundations of the still young Weimar Republic. Growing poverty and unemployment stand in stark contrast to the excesses and indulgence of the city’s night life and its overflowing creative energy. Gereon Rath, a young police inspector from Cologne, is transferred to Berlin in order to solve a criminal case – a porno ring run by the Berlin Mafia. What at first glance appears to be simply a matter of extortion soon reveals itself to be a scandal that will forever change the lives of both Gereon and his closest associates. Together with stenotypist Charlotte Ritter and his partner Bruno Wolter, Rath is confronted with a tangled web of corruption, drug dealing, and weapons trafficking, forcing him into an existential conflict as he is torn between loyalty and uncovering the truth.

Music Score for The Borderless Sky

Our team is proud to work on a new project.

Produced by Taglicht Media, „The Borderless Sky“ is the upcoming documentary project broadcasted as a 5 part  ARTE documentary series and cinema documentary about the „world’s highest ceiling“. In five adventures stories, photographers travel to Canada, Australia, Scandinavia, Indonesia and Chile. This is the story of their mission: to remind us that we all live together under an infinite roof.  The question is: When was the last time you looked up to feel it?

Five photographers (amongst them: Babak A. Tafreshi, Bernd Pröschold and Yuichi Takasaka featured at The World At Night) use hi-tech cameras to challenge extreme climates and unexplored panoramas. They collect untold pictures and astonishing timelapse footage in order to create a bridge between art, humanity, and science.
After receiving the support of the Creative Europe Programme – MEDIA of the European Union, the project is in post-production and we are currently composing the music and we will take the audio post production in the next couple of months.

We are happy to contribute with music score to this brilliant documentary project which enchants us with its poetic vision of five dreamers and their quest. Their bravery will let the audience participate in an incredible trip of discovery and surprise. It fascinates us with remote landscapes where the sky demonstrates majestic movements.

It was first seen in France in August 2014, and launched soon after that in the U.K., Italy and Latin America. Besides the renowned Disney Channel, more than 20 channels worldwide, added „Super 4″ including the animation score of L&L to their daily program.

Super 4 Animation Score

The series will follow the fun adventures of Alex the Knight, Ruby the Pirate, Agent Gene and Twinkle the Fairy. The four main heroes travel through a variety of worlds and explore distinct island communities to defeat evil and save the day. The show draws inspiration from not just Playmobil figures and themes, but also the imaginative adventures that can be explored through these toys, and the important lessons these adventures demonstrate: values such as teamwork, honesty, strength, respect and more…

The production of season 2 of „Super 4“ will start in the upcoming months, containing again Ludwig & Loehn’s animation score. Besides that these new characters will also be going the way of their Lego counterparts. Playmobil has confirmed it is currently developing a feature-length film. There are plans for a Playmobil feature film, expected to be released worldwide in 2017. The content and details of these plans are still under development, but we are looking forward to this added expansion to the toy line and our animation scores.

But for now: tune in, daily at 5:34 p.m. to get a glimpse of the adventures of Ruby the pirate, Alex the knight, Twinkle the fairy and Agent Gene!

Bye Bye,Tiny Tales! We will miss you.

In October 2009, our dear friend and amazing director Florian Meimberg started a short story series on Twitter called Tiny Tales.

A year later, Tiny Tales had become so popular amongst it’s 17.000 followers, that the German Newspaper Die Welt started featuring the short stories in their content.

Now, almost 6 years later,  it appears that a thief stole the book that was kept by the newspaper’s editiorial staff to keep track of which stories had been published and which hadn’t been forcing Tiny Tales to an end…

What a pity! We will miss you, Tiny Tales.

No other part of the world beast as many castles and palaces as Europe. A breath-taking aerial view leads you through the palaces and summer residences, built by Kinds and Princes in the most beautiful and strategically located spots.
„Castles and Palaces of Europe“ is a 5-party documentary series by director Jeremy Fekete in collaboration with well-respected director and producer Gero von Boehm. The documentary score was composed by the team of LUDWIG & LOEHN.
The series is covering 5 different regions, known for their stunning Castle – and Palace – architecture in Europe. Among these are:

Loire – France
Baden Württemberg – Germany
Southengland – GB
Piemont – Italy
Estremadura – Portugal

documentary score - Castles and Palaces of Europe

Lars Loehn and his team composed the documentary score to every Episode, certainly covering the typical music styles and containing music based on the traditional songs and tracks representing these particular regions. For the documentary score of the 5 x 51’min series L&L used mainly orchestral music with an interesting „David Fincher – like“ dark sound and at the same time rich tonality.

Director Jeremy Fekete won the ”SILVER WORLD MEDAL 2014″ at the New York Festivals for the entire Series. Besides that we are excited to say that we are currently working on the documentary score for a similar series, called „European Parks“ along with director Christian Schidlowski. As Schidlowski is a longtime partner, „European Parks„, presumably broadcasted in 2016, will be his 5th cooperation with the team of Ludwig & Loehn. Amongst others, L&L provided the documentary score for his series „Treasures of South East Asia“ and „Coasts of Germany„.

Commercial Music – The Midttrafik spot „The Bus“ was played more than 4 million times on Youtube!

In cooperation with the Danish bus-company „Midttrafik“, well known for their successful commercials, Lars and his team composed the commercial music to one of their spots. „The Bus“ gained over 4 million views on youtube.

With this campaign the Thomas Falkenberg Agency and M2Film – Production aimed to change the general view of Midttrafik and in fact riding the bus has never been cooler. In the past years the blue Danish buses from Midttrafik have driven all around the world, and with more than 4 million views on YouTube the commercial has proved a great viral success. Besides from the successful 90 seconds commercial the Midttrafik campaign consists of various content for TV, web, social and radio as well as event films and behind the scenes footage – all done as a 360 degree integrated production.

The commercial music, with its Hollywood blockbuster-sound contra punctually underlines the irony of this everyday transportation system. Composing the commercial music for „The Bus“ was the 6th collaboration between Director Marc Raymond Wilkins an Ludwig & Loehn. Besides putting Wilkin’s short film „Twilight“ to music. Lars Loehn also made the commercial music for his Spot „Father and Son“ for the Ukrainian mobile operator Kyivstar, for a T-Mobile spot „Bungee“ as well as for the beautiful „Raiffeisenbank“ commercial.

At the 2012 Viral Video Award the film was awarded with the jury’s selection: Best Viral of the Year. Against all odds „The Bus“ from Midttrafik also won the Epica d’Or in the film category at the Epica Awards. Besides that the Spot was awarded Gold at Eurobest in Lisbon as well as bronze and silver at the ADC, winning against big brands such as Cartier, BBC and Canal+.
